Small is beautiful:
A French desk clock with a bronzed brass case, c. 1830
The austere rectangular case has a bronzed brass column containing the movement. Below the silvered dial on the front there is a gilt brass applique depicting Cupid. On the right-hand side is a thermometer with a silvered brass register plate and mercury capillary, whilst on the opposite side there is a calendar. The whole is surmounted by a bronzed brass brûlé-parfum urn met butterfly lid and rests on a griotte marble base.
The clock has a day-going watch movement.
The time is indicated by a pair of blued-steel Breguet hands on a Roman silvered brass dial with an engine-turned centre, protected by a glass door with a gilt-brass bezel.
